I totally agree with LaraMascara.

I was refreshing Gmail whenever I stepped away from it (in case I didn't hear it when I was in the other room) for the month it took them to process our visa. Luckily, after a few weeks of waiting nervously I decided to visit my grandmothers and wound up getting the 'your visa has been issued' email while I was in the shower the day I was to head back to my parents.

It was certainly nice to get it, but the waiting was torture.
Be sure to submit the documents they ask for and not more. I went crazy thinking of every little thing I could do (we had receipts or photos of gifts we gave each other and letters from both our families supporting us- in hindsight, that was overkill). It's really hard to acknowledge while your applying, but as long as you meet the requirements and submit the documents they ask for, you should be fine.

The other stuff did make me feel better, but they probably didn't even look at it and it was stress to get it together.

We decided not to tell anyone except a select few we were applying. We didn't want to be barraged with people asking if we heard back or for updates when we had no way of knowing anything at all.

We figured people would have a hard time comprehending that just because most settlement visas were decided in x number of days a few months ago, ours might take longer and that does not mean it is being denied.

Not having to answer those questions definitely helped the waiting.

We didn't tell anyone we were even engaged until after the visa was issued.

Good luck!
