Help me find a new ironing board!
« on: January 23, 2013, 07:27:32 PM »
My current ironing board is beginning to rust through. Obviously, that's not great.

The one I have is the Minky Pro-Workstation. It has several features I really like - it's big (122cm x 43cm) and it has a useful coat hanger rail that I don't think I could manage without. However, the rust is a problem. I've had it less than 3 years, so this is no good. Also, it's really heavy.

So. What I'd ideally like is a big ironing board with a coat hanger rail that is lightweight (ish) and won't rust. Is that too much to ask for? Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions?

If you love it why not fix the rust with Hammerite spray or paint? You can buy it at Wilkinsons on the High Street, or at the big box diy stores.

I've done this so can testify that it does work.

It's more than rust, though. The rust has eaten through the metal mesh and I have a feeling that one of these days the whole thing will just collapse mid-iron!

Maybe get a new one of the one you like, but this time, add the rust prevention spray from the start (though you shouldn't have to!!!)

I don't have any other advice, I know I have an ironing board in my flat somewhere, but I haven't seen it in a long time  ;) :D

That's a good idea. I might do that. Thanks!

I don't know whether you have one near you, but I saw a pretty much identical one (think it was Minky) in Home Bargains last week. I remembered it because it was quite large, and the fact it was only £30 as well. Mind you, Home Bargains is one of thoses places where stock varies from shop to shop.

Thanks for that. It's pretty easy to find Minky ironing boards ... I guess I was hoping to find something better.  :-\\\\
