Glasgow - Any place to get cream of wheat or farina?
« on: January 31, 2013, 01:59:59 PM »
Hi,

I've got gastroenteritis, and farina (the wheat cereal) and/or cream of wheat is a staple when that happens.  Does anybody know where in Glasgow I can find either of those?  I know that cream of wheat is available on-line, but I was hoping for some in the next couple of days.

Thanks so much,
Sally

Check your nearest Polish grocery store.  I bought something Polish, that I'm reasonable sure is cream-of-wheatey.

You could also check for something along those lines at any whole foods/health foods shop.  Even if they don't have cream of wheat, they'll most likely have fine-ground oatmeal, which should be similarly soothing to your tummy.

There's bound to be someplace you could order in online, also.

Good luck!  Hope you feel better soon!

Can you have oats?  If so, can you have ready brek?   (You've probably already discounted that!)

It's called Semolina here. Farina will get you more of a flour-like thing. You can get semolina in different thicknesses of grain, but nobody will put it in with the hot cereals since that isn't how it's used here.

I buy mine at a local health food/grain shop usually, but bought a big bag just the other day at Morrison's. It is just the same, and I make it for my girls on a regular basis.

You should also be able to find it in an Asian (Indian / Pakistani) market.
