Applied online for provisional license
« on: March 27, 2013, 12:51:18 PM »
So I just applied online for my provisional license.  Here's my questions.

I know that I will receive my application in the mail and have to send identity documents.  Since my passport is in my maiden name and I want my drivers license in my married name do I just send my marriage certificate along with it?

Second, will sending this stuff off be like sending off for my FLR-M and I'll be waiting ages to get my stuff back.

Lastly, since visas are no longer put in the passport for FLR-M should I be sending my BRP along with it?

Thanks!
Kat

I think you just need a piece of ID to prove who you are.  I sent my BRP and held on to my passport.  I think I could have also sent my US driving licence, but chances are I wouldn't get it back since it'd look like I was exchanging my US licence for a UK provisional....  Anyway, they just need ONE piece of ID from the list on the application.

I can't remember what's on the form, but I was able to have my licence in my married name (my BRP is in my maiden name) by submitting my marriage certificate, too.

If you include a special delivery envelope, your BRP/passport and marriage certificate will be sent back in it.  The provisional licence comes separately in a little brown envelope.  :)

ETA:

Here's what I did when I got my provisional in December:

There's no way to exchange a US license for a UK license. I don't think they'd accept a US license anyway - the website states the only acceptable identity documents are a passport, a BRP, or a naturalisation certificate.

Ahhh.... ok.... I had just been warned by people not to use my US driving licence as my ID when applying for my UK provisional because I wouldn't get it back (even though I know we're clearly not allowed to exchange them).  But if you can't even use a US licence as the ID for the UK provisional, then it's not an issue.  :)
