Hello. What a great forum! I'm happy to have found it and welcome your thoughts on the following issue: I'm an American who also has an Irish passport and I've been contracting in the UK for a few years. During this time, I've been getting paid via PAYE and then just filing the normal US taxes at the end of the year. I'm about to start a new contract at a company that requires contractors who earn over a certain amount to start limited companies to receive payment. I've done some research online and this seems incredibly complicated due to penalties the US imposes on its citizens abroad. The company I will be working for does not allow for umbrella companies, so my only option is to start a limited company or request that they pay me less money so I can remain in the PAYE bracket, but this seems insane! Apologies for the long post but I wanted to provide as much info as possible. Has anyone here started a limited company for contracting purposes? Would you recommend it? Or should I avoid the hassle by earning less income? If you know of a great accountant who specializes in expat issues, I'd welcome the recommendation! Thanks
