I've been living in Scotland now for 7.5 years, first as a student, then on Tier 1 PSW visa, now (since 21 February, yay!) as a spouse/partner. I'm originally from Michigan but I lived in NYC for 3 years before moving to Edinburgh. I wanted to join UK-Yankee because it seems like a really helpful group of people who offer useful advice. Now that my FLR(M) visa was finally approved (after nearly 7 months! although I know others have waited even longer recently, which is nuts!!), I'm planning to do my Life in the UK test on March 21st (before the test changes). And I'm going to start looking for jobs again (ideally in Scotland, in academia / nonprofit / education sectors). Or maybe I'll start a small editing / training / consulting business, although I shudder to think about all the US/UK tax implications!
Since I've lived in Edinburgh for a while now, I can answer questions if people need tips about the city (for example, Lupe Pintos is an excellent source of American and Mexican treats).
Cheers! Marian
