“It was when I realised I had a new nationality: I was in exile. I am an adulterous resident: when I am in one city, I am dreaming of the other. I am an exile; citizen of the country of longing.” ― Suketu Mehta.

Married 04/13/11, in NYC.
Applied for Spouse Visa the following week, with express service, and I was approved 4 days later!
Arrived in the UK 05/20/11.
I took the stupid LIUK Test Oct. 2012.
We were granted ILR In Person in Croydon on 04/23/13.
Got BRP 2 days later, in mail box - it just appeared.

I'm curious that it mentioned proxy weddings being legal in England.  I wonder how that would work in the UK. I can't see any registrar I know going for it.  It doesn't seem like it would work here.

A marriage by proxy is one where one or both partners are not physically present at the ceremony. Marriages taking place under United Kingdom law are not valid if they are by proxy. However, United Kingdom law may in some circumstances consider a proxy marriage to be valid if both of the partners are ‘domiciled’ in a country which recognises marriages by proxy. The concept of ‘domicile’ is very complicated. If you need to know about the validity of a marriage by proxy you will need to seek specialist legal advice.

Well, there's at least one thing in the story that's already proven false. Oh yeah, it's the Daily Mail. I should have known better than to expect them to get the facts straight.

Yep, as soon as I saw that the link was a Daily Mail one, I didn't even bother clicking on it.

Almost everything in the Daily Mail is bull****.

I love it.

It totally cracks me up.
