Is getawayASAP or cheapoair legit?
« on: October 28, 2011, 10:17:39 PM »
Has anyone booked through either of these two before? Or any other of the odd travel places that pull up on skyscanner? Are they legit?  I'm seeing one way tickets from Atlanta to London from 400-500 which is about half of round trip and a lot less than what the actual airline quotes for one way.

My daughter has used cheapoair before without any problems.  She booked her flight before I googled it though and read bad reviews.  I would have advised her not to use them if I had done that first.  They don't answer phone calls and don't return messages either.  They say that if you don't call your airline two days prior to departure and there's a problem, you will be out of luck.  I read stories of people being stranded in foreign countries because the flight was changed and they couldn't get their tickets changed.  Like I said, my daughter had no problems and I am sure most people don't.  But I wouldn't use them myself.

I used CheapoAir to fly out here when I moved. I didn't have any problems, but also didn't have a need to contact customer service about anything, either.

I got mine from cheapOair.... flying out on Monday. I'll post back how it goes.... I wasn't really impressed with Expedia and they where triple the price! So even if I havetoo pay for a leg that gets messed up I still come out ahead. As far as flight changes just deal with the airline directly... any online trip agency is going to be sketchy at best.

Well just an update I made it here just fine! The AA planes seem to be a bit older and no personal DVD screens....but to save $600 I cant really complain.

I've had the same question about cheapoair as I'm looking for tickets to the US.  Any other feedback is appreciated.

I bought my ticket through GetawayASAP.com. I haven't flown out yet, but my confirmation number works on the British Airways website to check in. I'm not worried about it.

Hi There!  I have been using Cheapoair for all of my travel for a few years.  Customer service through email is great.  If you have to change your flight it is usually $150.00 service fee from Cheapoair and any other fee the airline may charge.  You can't every change airports.  Hope this helps.

Don't get me started on the AA planes... I flew over to the US with my mum last month on one and it was an awful flight (the worst I've ever been on... and I've done a lot of flying!).

We booked through Netflights.com and thought we were flying with BA, but it turned out 3 of the 4 flights were a codeshare and operated by AA instead... there were no personal TV screens, only 2 movies showing and the headphone sound was terrible... then the entertainment system went down 4 hours into the flight and after that the personal seat lights stopped working... so we spent the next 6 hours with no movies or shows to watch and no lights to read anything! It was like being on a flight from about 20 years ago... we spent 2 hours entertaining ourselves by playing cards :P.

Thankfully the flight home was BA and we got personal TV screens, comfy seats and as much free alcohol as we wanted (not like AA who charge $7 per drink)!!

I booked a VERY last minute flight to the US with cheapoair on BA for £575 two days before my flight as I had to make an emergency trip back for a funeral.  BA website wanted twice that, so I'd recommend checking it!

I've booked successfully with cheapoair with no problems on several occasions.

Don't work with getawayASAP. They billed my card TWICE for a reservation that failed. It took 5 days for over $1100 to be released before I could book a different flight. I was not able to reach them by phone. When I realized that they were in the same city as I (San Francisco), I went to their office and rang their doorbell. (No signs by the way saying that it is them). They didn't answer, but I could see people inside. Then they covered up the viewing port with something. I knocked and rang for another 10 minutes. Finally, someone reluctantly came to the door.  At first she said she couldn't help me until I started in with threats. Then she sat me down and took down the relevant information. In the end however, nothing could be done.  She kept saying that it was my bank that needed to release the funds, and the bank (who I trusted more in this situation) claimed that in fact it was getawayASAP that needed to cancel the transactions.

They are incompetent and sketchy and operate under several different names. Don't take a chance on this operation if you can help it.

Yet again, someone registering just so they can post a positive review of a shady company--their one and only post.  Scam, scam, scam.  Everything said here about the other airlines is the stuff I read about this company too.  I'm sure it works for some, but I wouldn't trust them with a penny of my money from what I've read, and I don't believe for a moment that was a legitimate poster.

Warning! I was attracted by the lower prices and booked a flight from Oakland to Austin using getawayasap.com. There was a stop over in long beach. When I get to the airport I find out the connection they booked was not on the same day. The dates for the connection are NOT printed on the ticket. Too bad says getawayasap. It's a legal layover. JetBlue did everything the could to get me home even though this was not their fault. Ticket agent said this was common. -- Be wary of these ticket scams. Cost me an additional $110 to get home.

These folks are rude. Worst service ever. I suspect that they purposely don't print the date of the connection -- the only way you would know that the connection is a day later is if you checked the fine print and noticed the flight time was over a day

We are looking for flights to bring DW's daughter over on a visit next month. Just keep getting £620ish on US Airways from Philly-Manchester.
Having seen this thread I looked on Cheapo and it's the same
"We don't want our chocolate to get cheesy!"
