education consultant recommendation?
« on: December 12, 2012, 07:26:07 PM »
Thank you for all of the helpful insight on this board!  Just accepted job in London beginning June 2013.  We have 6 & 7 year old boys (will finish K and 2nd grade in US in June).

Help!  Can anyone recommend an education consultant that can help us find a place for them for the 2013-2014 school year in London?  We had a phone consult ($250!) for an hour with one that gave us an overview of the school system - then told us we didnt stand a chance of getting them into a school in London ... we know the national schools are probably impossible but are we really out of luck on independent schools?  We wont be able to visit until January 2013 (about a month from now) to do school visits.

My boys are performing very well in a competitive private school in the US, no behavior issues and no special needs ...

We want to stay in London (not Surrey, etc) but are totally flexible and will determine where we live based on the school.  (Husband and I will not have to commute anywhere so we are flexible there)

Starting to freak out - please share your experience.  Thank you so much!

Are you interested in a private international school?  If so, I would start applying now.  I work for the American School in London, so know a lot about that (I'm the high school counsellor) but also know about a few other private schools.  If you are interested in State (public) schools in London, then I might be able to direct you to a consultant regarding the system here.  Private message me as I might forget to check back.

Just wanted to follow up on my original post ... I was in full panic mode when I posted in December!

Shortly after I posted, a friend introduced us to Bowker Consulting.  What a blessing!  The team at Bowker was outstanding!  We discussed our wants/needs and they sent us a list of possibilities.  After we whittled the list down to 6 schools, Bowker coordinated with us to get all of the paperwork, registration forms & fees paid.  Then, they set up 2 days of school tours, interviews and assessments for us on a whirlwind trip to London.

We were surprised and thrilled to have offers from ALL THREE OF OUR TOP CHOICES!  All 3 schools were 'full, no openings' when I was trying to get information on my own.

So, rather than panic, I definitely recommend Bowker Consulting if you need an education consultant.
