unique places to stay in the UK (south)
« on: April 20, 2013, 02:29:07 PM »
I'm looking for somewhere fun and quirky to stay in the UK in July, preferably in Dorset, Devon, or Wales. So far I've come up with: a treehouse (sounds super cool, but sadly it's booked until 2014), a barge, and a yurt.

Does anyone have any unique and off-the-beaten-track suggestions of places like this? We're big campers, hikers, pub-goers, and very interested in nature and history and everything else amazing that the UK has to offer.

The odder, the better!  :)

Have you seen these websites? The list unusual places to stay and some of them are within your requested areas: http://www.visitbritain.com/en/Accommodation/Featured-accommodation/Quirky-accommodation.htm
http://www.windmillworld.com/mills/placestostay.htm

I'd only ever thought of camping or regular B&B's or hotels so you've piqued my interest, thanks!

Thanks for the links, Fruitgum. Never would have thought of windmills or lighthouses - and now I have a few inquiries in!

Glamping (glamorous camping) is a growing phenomenon that combines camping with the the luxury and amenities of a home or hotel.  It allows travelers to experience nature without the hassle.

There are Eco-Pods in Pembrokeshire, Wales - http://glampinghub.com/unitedkingdom/wales/pembrokeshire/secluded-eco-pods-wales

Also Tent Pods in Devon - http://www.whitehill-park.co.uk/accommodation/campingpods#
