building credit before entering the UK
« on: May 26, 2013, 04:27:37 PM »
hi everyone! I am currently still in the states, however we are planning a move to the UK this fall, the hubby is a brit. However he has been in the states for over 7 years so he has no credit left in the UK. Does anyone know how we could go about building credit in the US before we reach the UK?
I have looked into HSBC however they want a minimum of 50,000 pounds deposited..

There really isn't a way. You can start when you arrive by getting a bank account, then the bank may issue you a credit card. Or you can apply for a store card.

I was wondering about the same thing :) He may be able to open a uk line of credit with an existing credit card company if he has a uk address (maybe he could use a relative's). I came across this thread which might be helpful:

missyp - Thanks for the link! Going to check that out :) We have been looking into using his sisters address to open an account and now I have seen more people suggesting that I think that's what we will do :)
