Hopeful Expat
« on: June 17, 2014, 05:23:43 PM »
Hey everyone,

I'm a hopeful expat looking to join my fiancé in London. I currently live in the Washington, DC area but have been all over the UK from London to North Yorkshire. My fiancé and I are currently navigating the visa process, so wish us luck!

I work in the non-profit sector so I'm not quite sure how I'm going to transition my career once I arrive. My background is in politics and foreign policy - so any suggestions are more than welcome.

My favorite things about the UK are definitely the bacon, the historical aspects and sights, and discussing the politics. Of course, the proximity to so many other countries is a huge plus since I enjoy traveling. One thing I'm going to miss about the USA (aside from Yuengling, bald eagles, and freedom) is going to be the weather. Not sure how I'm going to cope with the cold and all of that rain!

If anyone has any tips for moving across the pond or job hunting, I'd be eternally grateful. I look forward to getting to hear some of your stories and experiences.  :)

Best,
B

I don't have any advice as I haven't yet made the move (I leave on Tuesday morning!) but I'd be curious to see how you find the job hunt. I have a similar work background and while I'm not planning to work immediately I'd love to find something eventually if I can. Of course I'm living in Newcastle and not London so your options will be much wider than mine. Good luck!
