Any crafters out there? I need advice.
« on: August 17, 2013, 08:55:23 PM »
Hiya.
My baby sister is getting married in the fall. Her bridal shower (which I cannot attend) is in a few weeks.  The invite asked for crafting items for her wishing well, specifically for scrapbooking or wreath-making. I know nothing about either, nor do I know where to find something.

Any ideas? I prefer something not too heavy as I have to ship it to Pennsylvania.  Alternately, I could order something from a USA site and have it shipped to my mom.

Thank you! :D

Kirkgate Market in Leeds if you want to ship something from here.  :)

From one non-crafter to another...how about a gift certificate to Michael's or AC Moore?

I'd look for something on a US site and ship it direct to the US if I were you. Amazon is always a safe bet.

I always found the haberdashery section at John Lewis had a decent selection. And if she is in to one particular craft (for me it's knitting) you could try and google some specialty shops. There's also the cheap option of shipping her a book of crafting ideas from amazon.

Definitely order from the US: Royal Mail postage charges are getting out of control. I'm a craft addict and my favourite shop to visit when I am back in the US is Paper Source. You can order online and have it sent to Sis or Mom directly (or a gift certificate if they have a store near her). Simon Says Stamp is another great online shop. They ship to UK for any other crafters on this side of Atlantic.

You could always look on JoAnns as well for US shipping. I tend to order a lot of my crafting supplies from eBay, though. It's much cheaper.

Hi there. I'm a crafter, one of my fave places to go is Hobbycraft, if there's one near you. I could spend AGES there. They've got loads to choose from, along the lines you are looking for. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip. I'm in Yorkshire, though. ;)  I did manage to find a few things in Doncaster!

As a crafter myself, I would suggest that you try to find her some European stuff. It would be so much cooler to get things that aren't available in the US.

Get her pretty paper for her scrap booking.

As a scrapper I have found most of the stuff here has been imported from the US.

I was thinking that might be the case. However, I meant more like local papers, stationary products, not necessarily specifically scrap booking supplies. I should have been more precise.

But I since don't scrap book. I do collage with all kinds of ephemera, paper, etc. So maybe other types of paper would not be fit for the purpose of scrap booking.
