My next door neighbor that I rarely interact with found me locked out of my flat this afternoon.  He invited me in, and was willing to keep me entertained until I could raise my landlord.  Then he climbed over our garden walk and squeezed through my tiny sliver of  window so I could get in.

Sometimes I am amazed that when thinks seem completely fracked up, some kind stranger so often helps me without the slightest hesitation  :)

Also, I have a reggae band living across the street.

...the whole damn thing will turn
and return redefined, rearranged, rearranged...

I have the sweetest OAP neighbours on either side. One couple has written my girls' birthdays on their yearly calendars and always brings a small present and a card for their birthdays as well as Easter eggs, Christmas toys, etc. The ones I share a wall with in our semi-detached house are also rather deaf, so aren't bothered at all when my baby keeps us up crying through the night. I couldn't be luckier!

The neighbour two doors down has a few more troubles. She's actually quite nice and I like her, but I think she's using drugs. She just has that too thin, strung out look that I used to see all the time from new clients at the treatment centre I worked at.

Her relationship with her partner had been rocky, which I wouldn't know except every now and then we'll hear them having a vicious shouting match. A while back, my husband came in and had the "do we need to call the cops" talk as they were yelling so loud and angrily, he had grown concerned for her safety.

She threw him out again that day, and we heard him from a couple houses away threatening to break doors down, which was when DH came in and was looking at calling the cops, but he left at that moment, uttering what sounded like threats on her life if he returned. A few minutes later, DH, who had been working outside, came running in, saying he was back and had just torn down the back fence to her house down. We didn't even hesitate-called the police and told them to come right now!

I had to leave right after that for work and saw that the police were already outside her door, so clearly someone else also called them. I also called Children's Services and made a report. It's always a hard thing to do, but she has a little girl, who shouldn't have to live with that kind of violence.

Her partner was back home the next day, true to form. I hope they are getting help.

None that are funny here...odd yeah, but not funny. On one side of us, we have an elderly woman and her middle aged daughter that have lived there together for years. Neither is very friendly, but they love their garden and do a great job keeping it looking beautiful. Nice, quiet...and about the only thing we discuss are the birds that we all like to feed.

On the other side of them is an elderly woman who I can't honestly believe is still alive and STILL manages to walk her elderly black lab regularly. She's quiet but very nice.

On the other side of us, is a 40-50 something year old who keeps to himself. Its actually his mum's place, but she passed away a few years back. The funny thing is, he has another house, on the street behind us and he spends his time between the two. Some nights he sleeps here some, there. But, he always parks his car here.

On the other side of him...is our least favourite neighbors. Family with 3 teenage boys. Actually one of them is probably in his 20's now. They have an old caravan in their driveway...it never moves. At one point they were allowing the boys to party in there with their friends, drinking till all hours of the night, using the street to "relieve" themselves in. Then, most recently...the mother moved INTO the caravan, just before she moved out with her new baby  ???. We still get the group of boys hanging out in front of our house (the father doesn't allow them to hang in front of theirs anymore) till 2 am and it doesn't matter what day of the week it is. Just the other night, the youngest boy bought a very loud car (he just passed his driving test) and they were out revving the engine til 1:30 am. Then there's the junk car that has been parked up on the grass between the sidewalks and street since Christmas. They can't seem to move it and now when the council comes to cut the grass they can't do that so its growing up long around it. The rubbish that is always blowing around in their front yard...and their really weird dogs that don't even sound like dogs. Oh, and no one ever seems to work. Just an odd family!

Luckily, there are no houses across from us as its the rail line...but that has its own set of issues!
