Thoughts about registering births abroad

On that note, Liz, I found this interesting:

"Are illegal alien males required to register?

Yes. All immigrant alien males, other than those admitted on nonimmigrant visas, must register, whether or not they have a green card."  (Emphasis added by me)

That's from the Selective Service website.

Which sounds like if your UK husband is between the ages of 18-26, he has to register if you move to the US!

Yes that sounds to me like it applies to UK hubbies on marriage visas. How silly - so a 26 year old Brit hubby could be made to join up but they wouldn't care if my 40 year old US hubby didn't?  Also a 22 year old illegal immigrant from Timbuktoo could be made to join up? Great to know the US places its national security in such good hands!

Maybe a note about this should be posted in the Repatriation section? 

Well, my youngest has not been registered and I doubt I will register him -- maybe in four years time, but not now.

This gives me food for thought and I haven't even got any children yet.  I find it odd that American citizenship should be "forced" on my children due to my husband's nationality.  After all, they would be born in Britain... and from me.  It also makes me suspicious of the ulterior motives behind the scheme - drafting, filing taxes, etc.  Does anyone know of any other countries that have this system?
