As a make-up artist and aesthetician I have a LOT of beauty products and of course when I make the BIG move to the UK I want to bring them with me. I have a rolling make-up train case that I will need to bring. I know carry on luggage isn't an option since the products are more than 3oz and in mass amounts. I also have quite a bit of shoes and accessories that I would like to bring. So I guess my question is; Did you pack it in plastic totes or luggage and check it on the plane? Perhaps you mailed it over? Or did you hire a company like UpackWeship to send it over? I would hate to toss these items as I would be using them all. I'm already getting rid of so much including; furniture, dishes, some of my daughters toys etc.. Any advice on my dilemma?

I'm not a make up artist but I do have what would probably be considered a lot by non-makeup artist standards. I separate it all out into different makeup bags and fit as much of the dry stuff (like powder, eyeshadow, eyeliner pencils and blush) as I can into my carry-ons, and then try and divide the rest evenly between my checked bags. The only thing I have a hard time with is nail polish because it's so heavy and so fragile (and because I'm an addict and have a lot) but when my husband was here I wrapped up a good chunk of my collection in bubble wrap and made him take it back with him.

It might not work for you if you really have tons of stuff but this has been my system.  :)

Yes, will your fiance' be visiting before you make the "big move"? I send stuff over with my husband, he basically arrives with an empty suitcase and goes back with it filled to the limit!  ;) Though I have become brutal in my closet lately, just selling or giving away whatever I don't wear or don't need, trying to streamline my life  ;)

The other next easiest, least expensive way I can think of is to just check the case full of your products and shoes/accessories and pay the extra $$$$ to the airline....
Good luck!  :)

I'm more concerned about transporting all that paper work (tax stuff, financial stuff, birth and marriage certificates, etc.)  Doesn't sound like much but adds up and can be bulky/heavy. I did consider mailing it in batches but if the envelope won't fit through the letter slot then I'd end up having to trek to the sorting office for it. I've scanned some of it but sometimes you need the originals.

For really delicate, valuable, and/or large things, I mailed them over professionally packaged and insured with FedEx.

For anything else, I spread everything over several luggage bags and paid the extra luggage fees and took them as checked baggage.

I took my instruments as my carry ons.  (and I think I put jewellery and other small items eligible for carry on in bags inside the instrument cases)

That was my main concern too. I don't think there is a perfect way unless you want to spend a fortune on fedex.  In the end I brought my husband's complete original visa application (which had all the important stuff in it anyway) in hand luggage along with the tax returns and receipts for 2012 and 2011. 2010 went in a suitcase and the prior 4 years tax returns and everything else went in the shipment.
Apart from the hand luggage I suppose, it's really a bit of a gamble. Suitcases do get lost after all.
I'm still waiting for the shipment.....! ;)

This sounds ideal, but depending on if my DF visits before the move I may just have to bring more bags with me on the airplane.. SIGH ::)
