Visa Service?
« on: June 28, 2013, 01:44:06 AM »
Did anyone here use a visa service to help them get their visa? I'm speaking of one such as this: http://ukimmigrationbarristers.com/uk-visa-usa.php?co_usa=yes&gclid=CIDrmum_hbgCFWlp7AodtkgA3g

THis looks like a pretty good service, and I'm sure I'll cost more than the visa but since the visa is already ridiculously expensive I'd consider going that way.

I'm coming over with my English wife. We've been married for 23 years. I think it's stupid that I should need a visa to come live with my wife in England. We even have a house there!

So I'm thinking of going with a visa service, and I wondered if anyone here has any knowledge or experience regarding such services.

Thank, all!

J

Hello,

I think you should seek the help of a visa service...it will give you the peace of mind. It is expensive, and many people just do it themselves...but knowing myself...I am not detail oriented and I can forget and make mistakes easily..so I say just go for it. My spouse got a visa service in the Uk,....and it was very helpful! Good luck!

I can pretty much guarantee that they're not going to be able to give you 'regular updates' regarding your application. It takes as long as it takes and you really won't be able to request info unless it's gone beyond a certain length of time (cannot remember what that is atm).

I did all of my applications on my own. Occasionally it's been recommended here that someone see an immigration attorney (not a visa service) but most people don't require this.

Also, what rebeccajo said.

All a visa service does is fill out the form for you (by asking you the questions) and tell you the documents required for your application.  And if you read the article Rebbecajo linked to, you'll see that that particular company is a bad apple.

The application is quite straight forward.  Hundreds of active members on this site have completed it on their own successfully and the success rate for applications from the US is about 98%.

Yes, I imagine it is frustrating that you have to go through this process when you have been married for such a long time, but the UKBA has no sensitivity to this and you have to follow the same process.

The thing we see a lot on this forum is people who have been married for a long time, seem to think they don't need to prove their relationship.  You still need to include your marriage certificate and proof that you have been living together during the duration of your marriage.  As long as your wife has held a job in the US making at least £18,600 in the last twelve months and has a job contract for a position making at least £18,600 beginning within three months of your application (or you two have £62,500 in cash savings for the past six months), you'll be successful.  You have a house so you already have accommodation sorted.

Of course if you are more comfortable with a visa service or a solicitor, then follow your gut and do it.  But if you want to give it a go on your own, you can post questions and a list of the documents you are submitting on this forum and you'll receive feedback from many people who have been through this exact same application.

Best of luck!

Thanks, KFdancer. You've talked me out of it.

Let me apologize in advance, then, for the pest I'm sure to turn into on this forum.
