Hello all,

This forum has been a great resource for me while applying for my visa.

My family is planning to move to the UK sometime in August after my work visa is approved (I am a US citizen). My wife is a UK/US citizen, and our daughter was born in the US and as we understand is also a UK citizen through my wife (my wife was born in the UK).

My daughter has a US passport and has visited the UK many times, but she does not have a UK passport. According to the embassy's website, getting her a UK passport could take quite a long time and delay our move.

Does anyone have any experience using a US passport to travel to the UK?  If we bring our daughter's original US birth certificate and my wife's original birth certificate to prove our daughter's UK citizenship, will she have issues entering the UK with my wife? We also read that we can obtain a UK register of birth. Would this help?

Thank you!

If she is even allowed to enter on a US passport she'll be stamped in as visitor.  At the IO's discretion that will be up to 6 months.    Birth certificates aren't going to make a difference.  If she doesn't have a visa or a UK passport the only option is for her to be stamped in as a visitor.  That means unless you get her passport sorted before her visit visa expires she'll have to leave the UK.  You should really take care of getting her a UK passport before you leave.
