I applied for a National Insurance number
« on: May 12, 2003, 11:41:11 PM »
I just went the other day..i recently started a new job on the 28th of april and my appointment was on the 9th...i had to bring, passport, letters from the home office, utility bills and a contract and letter of employment from my job...

the one thing i didnt know that they needed to know was the exact date and return date of all my trips to the us/uk...eek i had to think hard....could not remember the exact dates...

they asked me more then what the home office did about how i met tj, how long we dated, all my trips back and forth...

almost an "official" worker now..yipee :)

Thanks for the heads up! I hope to start working in England next month so I just found my dates to remember.

Seems the scrutiny never ends on either side which makes us overly paranoid at times. Funny-when my husband and I went to take my boxes to the shipping (container) company we even contimplated taking our passports and marriage certificate...yes a crazy thought considering everything we have been through! :) Of course we realized we were nuts and didn't take them. Got there and it went so smoothly...we wondered why?

Glad to hear that you are well on your way!  :)

Jules

I have my appointment on the 20th of this month. I was bad and have been using a temporary number so far.  I've heard horror stories about getting a NIN.

I have no doubt they'll give me one, however. Working here for 5 months, I'm totally legit. It'd be silly to deny me paying the proper taxes.

I had no problems at all. I was in and out in under 20 minutes.

I just had my interview today. Went as smooth as silk.

Although, I won't get my number for 3-4 months!

Is it just me, or is that a bit excessive?

Hi there!
When I had my interview, it took over 4 hours. It didn't help probably that I had moved alot in the past 5 years. They didn't even bother to offer me a glass of water the whole time :(

my NI interview was very short, about 20 minutes and I had my card in a few weeks after that. Except Inland Revenue used my temporary one on a PAYE coding notice and I sent it back, asking them to correct it but thats about it.
I thought the interview would be much longer and detailed and I brought my passport, bank statement, marriage certificate, all the letters from agencies I had signed up with as proof I was looking for work but they didnt need to see most of it. I had to fill out this 12 page application but apart from that, that was it, really.
Good things come to those who wait...a really long time.
