Child benefit
« on: September 15, 2013, 11:37:46 AM »
Hypothetical question regarding child benefit as we may start a family at some point.

I'm USC, my husband is UKC.  I'm on FLR(M) and won't have IRL for many more years (new rules).

I am a high earner and if I was allowed to claim child benefit, I would not qualify.  My husband makes less than £60k (but over £50k) so can qualify for part of the child benefit.

As I am subject to immigration control, my husband cannot claim more based on me....  But would my income still be counted?  In our situation, eliminating my income works to our advantage.

IIRC....  Your income would still count, you just can't claim the benefit in your name as you're subject to immigration control.  Your husband can claim, but your income will mean it's not worthwhile.
