Froot Loops at Home Bargains
« on: March 06, 2013, 06:15:40 AM »
Don't know if anyone will be interested in this, but last night in Home Bargains, I saw boxes of Kellogg's Froot Loops for £1.99.

Previously I have seen these in American import/candy shops for silly prices like £6.99, so thought I'd mention this in case anyone is a Froot Loops fan.

I picked some up from Tesco the other week as a treat for the kids- they were either 1.99 or 2.99.  They also had Lucky Charms at 5.00/box to which I said NO WAY!!!! :)

I bought them at my grocery store too.  Somehow they just didn't taste the same.  Not sure if it was my memory that shifted or if the product was different, but I remember them having vibrant colours and flavours, but these were really bland. I was pretty disappointed.

I agree they aren't the same.  My kids had some over christmas while back home and brought the leftovers back for airplane snacks.  The colors are definitely not as bright (in fact there are only 3 colors) and they didn't taste as sweet to me.  I'm thinking it has to do with the rules on dyes and such.

I thought the same thing.  Artificial colours and flavours are illegal in things marketed for kids, and Fruit Loops are clearly not the same without them ;)

I was never a big fan of Froot Loops, but I recently had Frosted Flakes and to me they don't taste the same, either.

Remember Cookie Crisp?  I loved that stuff. I remember my brothers and I eating it one morning before school. My Dad came in the kitchen, looked around and yelled upstairs, "LORRAINE!  Are you aware the kids are eating bowls of COOKIES for breakfast? COOKIES!"  Dad was so un-cool.   ;D

C is for cookie. That's good enough for me.

;D  Sounds like my dad, the man who frowned on such things, but now lets my nephew have chocolate ice cream for breakfast when he stays over!

I've also spotted fruit loops in the Waitrose in Salisbury. Though I've been to the Waitrose in Gillingham, Dorset and they didn't have any so maybe not all Waitrose carry them. Also the Waitrose in Salisbury sells pop tarts. Just the strawberry frosted kind but it's the first time I've seen them in the UK.
