Shots needed- recent repats please!
« on: October 17, 2004, 11:13:40 PM »
Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what is, what isn't needed currently? Surprise, Surprise! GP/Health Authority, lost my Immunization records and I am trying to tell the nurse what I need to do, but want to be absolutely sure I get it all done prior to the  interview _ don't think the idea of injections on that day will help me keep calm!

From the consular services webpage, I have the chart and being born in the UK can see I need;

MMR (unless antibodies show in bloodwork, already got that from super uky!
TD (??)
Hep B ( that wording is not clear, "yes, if through 19 years, yet 18-64 it says no!)

I know one jab has to be given within 12 mths of applying, but any others with their own timeline?!

Thanks (mostly for your patience I guess!)
Sheril

My DH did not have all of the required immunizations and they would have charged him a load of money to get them at the local surgery. He did get the jabs he needed at the medical exam on interview day. I think it was only like 30 pounds or so - not a problem at all. Because he was over 18, he didn't need the Hep B jab. Not sure which jab needs to be given within 12 months of applying tho???

I don't know which jab you're tlaking about either - the '12 months before applying' one?
My husbands immunization records were lost as well.
They'll talk to the immigrant at the Dr. office, figure out what they need, and do them there - pretty cheaply and hassle free.
When we were there, there were about 7 other couples there doing the same thing - EVERYONE needed jabs, I know they all got tetanus, which is probably benign enough that they just give it to everyone unless you can prove you had one recently, maybe that's the 12 month one?
Anyway, this was the thing I stressed about that I needed to stress the least about - they are used to people coming with only half-information about what jabs they've had.

Thanks Ladies,

I dont know which 12 mth one I am on about either ;) - it might be the police certificate LOL!! (something I read somewhere, but it could possibly be the tetanus!)

That's 2 very good points there, they can always be done at the Embassy (not too expensive, not sure what my GP will charge) and the fact that they are indeed used to people not being 100% sure of what they need........

So, can one of you please calm me down about the rest of this then?!!

Hugs and thanks..........I promised myself I wouldn't get like this and as SOON as I start actually filling things in, some kind of paranoia takes over, what IS that?! I mean, this post is before work!

Have a good day girls :)

Jeez! they want £50 for a private blood test to check for MMR anti-bodies or just go ahead with it anyway as even if I had rubella at school, students here ( 19 ish) are being advised to have booster MMR shots due to a potential mumps outbreak this season...........

They will get back to me on the cost of the MMR- I might just wait and have that one done at the Medical and I am none the wiser about the 12 mth thing I said above...........

Ho hum.....

Sheril :)

Not relating to immigration at all (but pregnancy) - I had to get an MMR shot a few months ago because even though I had it as a girl, my Rubella "didn't stick". ::)

Just a bit of an update: I had my Tet/Dip and MMR this afternoon (Eeeek!!), cost £30 and the nurse ("Specialist Practitioner" actually!) gave me a handwritten, dated statement on letterhead and stuck the vaccine batch sticker(s) on as well (I nicked that idea from here I think but she had already planned to do it!)

Couldn't have been easier and got me out of work 2 hrs early~ thanks to my L.Manager and fear of needles  :-[

Now in the process of making hubby feel incredibly sorry for me that I have to go through this on his behalf - and hope I get a foot rub out of it  ;D

Regards
Sheril.

I think my hubby was a bit lucky w/our surgery.  He went in w/the list of required inoculations and they gave him the ones that are needed for his age group, DTP, Polio, MMR, all for free as they had lost his previous records.

If he would have received them at the medical it would have cost £55

The cost for the shots is as follows
HEP B £30
DTP £10
Oral Polio £10
Inactivated Polio £30
HIB £30
MMR £35
Td £20
Pneumovax £35
Influenza £20
Payment to be made by cash, mastercard or visa.

~DCF Timeline~
7/16 I-130 Sent
7/19 Homeland Security Filed petition and took our $
7/22 Received Postcard from Homeland Security
8/11 Sent for Police Records
9/16 Received Police Report
9/17 Sent DS-230 Part 1
10/2 Sent DS2001
10/9 Received paperwork saying petition was approved Oct 7
11/10 interview letter went to address in US where we intend to live... interview is Nov 30th

I agree, I think you were lucky! You know, a couple of years ago, I think this would have been the case with most Dr's surgeries, but now are all drowning in multi-copies of everything, things have changed and they are just not as helpful, they are  more profit driven these days for things like shots, passport signatures and so on.

I was going to leave it until my interview, but decided I didn't need the extra worry of the interview, travel, AND injections - Argh!!

BTW- good luck to you both,

Sheril
