Shipping to an APO help!!!!
« on: October 15, 2013, 03:07:05 PM »
I've searched the boards for an answer to this question and the only answer I found didn't help me at the post office. My brother is stationed in Afghanistan and I've been trying to ship some goodies to him for months now. No one in any of the post offices in my area (even the big main office) knows how to ship to an APO. Does anyone here know how I can do it without paying an arm and a leg for it??  Please help.

I think you are running into problems because APO's were set up for overseas US personnel to receive parcels at the same rate as if they were still in the US. Therefore there probably isn't an arrangement set up for mailing from the UK.

Could you buy the items online in the US and supply the APO address for delivery? Good luck :)

Unfortunately a majority of the items are personalized things I've made myself so buying online isn't an option, at least not for those things. Thanks for the response. I guess I'm just out of luck on this. One of the down-sides to moving to another country eh?  :-/

Here is some general info on sending to APO addresses: http://www.oconus.com/APOFPODPOShipping.aspx

Looks like it can only be sent through the USPS. Can you send it to someone in the US to post on for you?

Is the APO in Afghanistan near or in the same location as a BFPO as well? (i.e. Camp Bastion has both US and UK forces living there).

If so, does he know any UK personnel who you might be able to send your brother's things to via BFPO post instead? Perhaps you could send it to a UK officer through the BFPO and then they could pass it on to your brother?

I asked him if there was a UK base nearby and he didn't know of one, I'm still looking into that though. Thanks :-)

I'm a little late to the party, sorry, but you could try contacting one of the US air force bases here in the UK and see if they have any ideas. I'd imagine not, that it would be too big a security risk, but it can't hurt to ask.
