Places to eat in Brum

Starting this thread so I can share some of foodie info in Brum.  Hopefully others can also share their Brum foodie info.

Burritos:

There seem to be a wave of places serving burritos in Brum, some have fixed locations and others in the street food scene.

The following are the ones with a fixed location:

• Mi Casa - located in New Street train station, very tasty but expensive (£7.95 for a pork burrito
• Chilacas - located in Brindley Place, only tried it once and thought it was lacking in flavor
• Bodega - located in Bennet's Hill, I did not like their version of a burrito
• Chiquito - located a bit outside Brum City Center on Hagley Road, can't remember much about the burrito
• I have not tried Las Iguanas

The following are the street food vendors (either through the Brum Yum Yum or Digbeth Dining events):

• The Mexican Bean - the flavour was awesome but they did not include any rice to soak up the very tasty sauce
• Margo & Rita - very nice truck and the burrito I tried was tasty, they do not serve burritos all the time though
• Habaneros - in addition to the above events, they can also be found by Temple Row.  Tried twice but found the burrito lacking in flavor
• have not tried El Kantina

One gripe I have is that none serve carnitas burritos , just pulled pork or beef or chicken.  One day.... 


Eggs Benedict
Boston Tea Party - located in Corporation Street near the courthouse, it was very very tasty and I was so happy I finally found a place where I can get my eggs benedict fix

I have not tried the eggs benedict in The Jekyll & Hyde

One gripe I have is that none serve carnitas burritos , just pulled pork or beef or chicken. 

But wait... carnitas ARE 'pulled'/ shredded pork.
(unless my memory is failing me  )

The pork carnitas I miss are the ones that's cut in bite size pieces with some fat . 

Never liked any type of pulled meat, be it barbecue pork or beef

las iguanas.........food has always been good.......been there several times

kitchen garden cafe in kings heath...........my favorite lil place........we eat there all the time........breakfast, burgers, specials, organics/veg, the atmosphere is awesome for me

akamba garden center........an african delight.......love this place......only downfall is that the buffet is always the same........but for an occasional treat its great

handmade burgers...........expensive but very very good

eds easy diner............its okay..........nothing to brag about

ok diner.........sucks bad

I think there are two yanks working at the Boston Tea Party - if either of you are on this board, sorry was not able to say hi , by the time I realised I was not imagining the accents, you guys were so busy at the counter.

Burgers:
I posted in the burger thread some of these already but since this is about places to eat in brum ... 

• GBK (Gourmet Burger Kitchen) - this is a chain, they have a location at the Mailbox and another in Brindley Place.  The burgers are tasty but it is the bun that stands out (it does not disintegrate).  the skinny fries with rosemary is also very good.  slightly expensive though, around £12 for a cheese burger with skinny fries and coke
• Handmade Burgers - another one with multiple locations (Bullring and Brindley Place), the burger was also good but I thought the bun was not up to par
• Arco Lounge in Harborne - only been here once, the place has a good feel and lots of choices.  unfortunately the burger I ordered was just not like a beef burger at all, more of dense meat puck .  I may go back to try their eggs benedict though
• street food - there are a couple (The Original Patty Men and The Meat Shack) that stands out.  Both are good but unfortunately not in the same league as Bleecker St. Burger from the London street food scene
