My sister misspelled my name on my flight ticket again!
« on: December 09, 2013, 09:05:32 AM »
Hi guys so my sister booked me a flight using her miles to surprise me in time for Christmas. My flight leaves on Wednesday from heathrow to San Fran with a stop in Philadelphia. She only sent me the confirmation and details today. What can I do apart from booking a whole new flight? The misspelling is an extra letter at the front of my name. Last time she did the same but it was that she put the wrong surname. I had lots of trouble with it but because I had my marriage certificate I was allowed to fly. I have no documents in the misspelled name. I don't imagine they'll be very understanding that it was a mistake? I'm so nervous any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Can you call the airline and see if you can't fax them your correct details with the flight information you have? What about gaining access via your sister to the online account to change the details?

I can't imagine that you would need a whole new ticket.  I would imagine this kind of thing happens from time to time with online booking.  It's just an extra letter, not a different name...

Can you call the airline and ask what to do?  I would imagine your passport number is associated with the ticket and as long as those two match, you'll be good to go.  I bet they can print you a new ticket confirmation and you won't have a hassle at the airport.

I had this problem a few years back.  Contacted the airline who said they can't change it but it should be ok on the day but it would be up to the person checking you in.

In my case it was a friend's name spelled Steve instead of Steven.  He was allowed to travel.

Thanks everyone. I've called and messaged my sister and she's not responding so I'm not able to login and change it. But that's good news that it should be ok.

You usual can't change a name online after an airline ticket has been issued. I would call the airline ASAP.

Thanks Geeta. I've called and they said they will not change it but I should be fine on the day if I come early. The person who will check me in will charge a fee for the change. What a nightmare.

How did it go? Any issues to report, if anyone has a similar situation in the future?

Sorry just saw this. It went smoothly. I explained what happened and the nice lady said that she will change it for me and that it's not a big deal as it's only one letter.

Glad to hear it was a non-problem!  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]
