Spam relaunches
« on: November 02, 2004, 05:33:24 PM »
 LONDON (Reuters) - Spam, the luncheon meat which valiantly sustained the country's war effort only to suffer so cruelly at the hands of Monty Python, is being relaunched in the UK.

A 2 million-pound campaign will feature the first TV adverts for the brand, portraying it as quintessentially British despite the fact it was invented in America and is now largely produced in Denmark.

If there was a vomiting pumpkin icon, I would use that here.

I have eaten spam...but not since the 70's when we got a case of the stuff cheap.  I can't say I would not eat it if in company or starving but I would never purchase it myself.

Oh god I'm having awful flashbacks to my childhood of my mom using Spam to make omelets. Blech! [smiley=sick.gif] I'll never forget the sound of it sliding out of the can (sslllluuuuurrrp) and the nasty clear jelly stuff all over it and the smell of dog food that would waft up from the can. It even looked like dog food with all the little grisly pieces throughout it. :-\\\\

Edited to add...I was just telling a guy at work (who likes Spam) what I was posting here and he said "Spam's good...it doesn't smell like dog food....it's just dog food that smells like Spam." ::) [smiley=laugh4.gif]

Well.....I never liked Spam as a kid, but as an adult it's grown on me.  I have a lovely recipe which is cornbread (w/extra corn & cheese grated into it) with Spam cut out and placed like wagon wheel spokes on the bottom of the pan and on the top of the cornbread.  Yummy - especially covered in Lyle's maple-flavoured syrup!  It's a favourite in our house - never any leftovers!

So where does one find cornmeal?  I can't seem to find it anywhere in the store but have a feeling I am not looking for it in the right place.... :-\\\\

I think your best bet would be if you have any little ethnic grocers in your area. I found corn meal in a little Indian Grocer in London. I've only ever seen it there.

Try the Italian section of your supermarket where you may find it as polenta.

 A little spam, topped with a little velveeta....

 [smiley=puke.gif]

I would probably think about considering lightly entertaining the thought briefly... when there are no more cockroaches.

Spam.  LOL.  I remember my shock - and disgust - when, while managing one of a large bookstore chain, we got in a shipment of books containing (get this) "The Spam Cook Book".  :o  Included in the recipes were things like "Swedish Spam Salat" (wtf???).  Oh, I wish I could remember some of the other ones...I think I have purposely tried to drive the images of these recipes out of my mind, LOL.
