Fun with Chemistry 101!
« on: November 13, 2004, 05:09:39 PM »
A couple of days ago hubby made dd some chocolate milk.  In a sippy cup.

Unbeknownst to me, he did not rinse the cup when she was done with it.  We've had a lot of dishes lately, so I did not get to the cup until today.  You can imagine what it was like.

But, using my clever little brain, I tried something.  Yes, it's basic chemistry, but it worked, so I'm passing it on.

I rinsed the cup.  I dumped in a couple of teablespoons of baking soda.  I added about 1/4 cup of vinegar.

It foamed all over my hand, I quickly grabbed the lid and screwed it on.  Then I put my finger over the mouth part and gave it a few good shakes.

When I took my finger off, the vinegar/soda mix shot out of the mouth holes-I mean, literally SHOT out.

The cup was clean.  The spillproof spigot thing was clean.

I rinsed it with hot water and voila.  I'm still washing it-but all those milk solids and muck in the spigot were gone.
And it was fun.

LOL! Hmmmm... sounds like an experiment that we should try here, if for nothing else, the giggle factor.  ;)
