New member hello
« on: November 03, 2004, 01:46:30 PM »
Hi everyone,
I have just joined the forum and wanted to introduce myself. I suppose it's the election fever, but I've fell really homesick lately and am grateful to have found this forum.

I am married to a Brit and have lived in London for the last four years. I am originally from Illinois but prior to coming to London lived in New York City for a few years.

I look forward to some interesting chats!

Welcome to the site Mimsy and thanks for stopping by to say hello!

I hope you enjoy reading the various topics and feel a little less homesick.

Welcome!!

Good for you.. you seem  to be embracing the whole moving thing quite  well.  wish I had  your same  enthusiasm..and luck at making friends..  British or otherwise..  but it has  gotten easier.  I have  been here  three months and  also feel sites like this are  a Godsend.    American Expats is another site I  post on..  it has a membership  to really  enjoy it fully but basic topics are fun to read..
Good day!!

hi azroomie

i spose i have done well acclimating to the uk but i think that has a lot to do with marrying not just a brit, but a life-long londoner. i not only married him, but sort of inherited [for better or worse!] his social scene. i was lucky in that regard. i also work in an industry where there are tons of young, social people who also tend to be from other places so i spose i walked into a ready-made scene, in some sense.

it's funny though, i have always had pangs of homesickness, but something about being out of the states for 4 years now has made the homesickness different, somehow. it's less urgent, but also more painful because you do see the longer you stay the less likely you are to leave. i love the UK and i'm really greatful for the opportunity to live in another country...it just doesn't mean it's easy!

thanks for the tip on the other site. i will check it out.

Hi Mimsy, I know what you mean. I've been in the UK for two years now and even though I miss home, I enjoy living in the UK and the homesickness is not so upsetting anymore.

Welcome to the site, darlin.  I hope you enjoy the site.

Welcome from another Londoner!  I am rather new to the city (end of July) but already it feels great here...good fit for me I think.  I work in a very American environment and with lots of Americans so I've worked hard at trying to get to know some Brits...but if you ever want to get together with a group of American women, let me know...we try to do a night out at least regularly (and a few of us are getting together Saturday night if you are free).
