If you can use your UK address as your mailing address, can you request the bank to mail bank statements to the UK address?

My credit union doesn't let me change it to a UK address...let alone mailing statements to a UK address..

Thanks!

Bank of America allows foreign addresses, and posts monthly statements to me in the UK.

Citibank also recognizes my UK address and sends any mail here.

I have an account with a credit union in the US, from when I was on a student visa. They were happy to change my address to a UK one when I left the US, but due to the formatting of the address on the paper statements, I never received any in the post (the postcode and country were left off, so they just got lost and are probably still floating around USPS somewhere). Because of that I asked them to change the address to my aunt's in the US, so that the statements would definitely be delivered (and it's handy having a credit card registered to a US address too).

So, just something to be aware of - if you are able to get statements delivered to a UK address, just make sure the address is listed correctly on them!

Thank you guys! I will open an account with one of the banks you guys mentioned before leaving for the UK. Barclays accepts statements from a foreign bank as proof of address, so I will try to get the bank to send statements to my UK address.

Just one thing to keep in mind:

Some U.S. websites won't accept non-U.S. billing addresses, even if it's a U.S. credit/debit card.

For this reason, I've set the billing address on my old credit union accounts to my dad's address.  This works out well for me, since I needed to open a U.K. bank account anyway.  That's the one I use every day, and the credit union one is only used as a place to deposit the birthday checks my family keeps sending me, or have my tax return direct-deposited.  Then I can either transfer the money via PayPal, or leave it there and use it if I want to order gifts for family at home, etc.  It's come in handy on several occasions around the holidays.

USAA was fine switching my US mailing address to a UK one.  Too bad they don't bank in the UK.  (Although they do UK car insurance, which is nice.)
