Do we need to carry our passports around with us?
« on: August 13, 2014, 07:01:02 AM »
Now that we are living in the UK on our ICT visas do we need to always have our passports on us, or can we leave them at home?

Yep I agree with Geeta. Absolutely no reason to carry them about. Only time i take passport out is for identity purposes or when i am flying, other than that they stay away..

Yeah, it's a nuisance having no other form of ID though.  I had to show my passport (Irish) when I joined the local independent library.  Fortunately they warn beforehand to bring ID with you so it wasn't a wasted trip.

Thank you all.  It is a bit of a pain to carry around all the time.

If you need ID you can apply for a provisional driving licence (whether you're planning on driving or not). You'll need to send off your passport but it does give you a UK form of ID.

Honestly, I found after I got set up with a bank, GP and other basic stuff, I haven't needed ID for anything in the past two years besides work (but they need to see my passport and BRP for that).

Yeah, I know about the provisional license business but reluctant to send off passport unless absolutely necessary.
