Hey, not an expat- yet
« on: August 03, 2014, 11:23:58 PM »
Hey everybody, I'm not an expat yet, but I plan on it. I'm mostly here for the info on the immigration process.
Here's the deal. I'm graduating in May with a bachelors in Anthropology and this year I met my girlfriend who's getting her masters also in May. She's planning on moving back to the UK to take care of her grandparents and dad after she graduates and I'm trying to find a way to make this work.
I have no clue what in the hell I'm doing. Has anyone here managed to pull this off? Cause if so I'm going to pick your brain.
Thanks guys
Take it easy

As you probably know, there is basically one route you will probably be (eventually) eligible to go down: the family route.

If you have lived together for 24 consecutive months, and she has made the equivalent of £18600 in the past year, you might qualify as unmarried partners - if you apply when she is moving to the UK.

If you won't have lived together, basically she still needs to have earned £18600 and have an offer of a job paying the same back in the UK AND you either have to be married (spouse visa) or planning to marry within 6 months (fiancé visa). You would be exempt from the financial requirement if she becomes an official carer for someone (you mentioned grandparents?). Becoming a carer has a whole different set of requirements....
2004-2008: Student Visa
2008-2010: Tier 1 PSW
2010-2011: Tier 4
2011-2014: Tier 2
2013-2016: New Tier 2 (changed jobs)
16/12/15: SET (LR) successful! - It's been a long road...
12/05/16: Citizenship ceremony!
