Lost BRP and need to return to UK
« on: August 22, 2014, 12:51:55 AM »
I am home in the U.S. Visiting and lost my BRP Visa and have a flight to return to UK next week?  I do have my passport.  Any recommendations on how I can quickly get a replacement BRP Visa?  I tried applying online but do not know all of the reference numbers needed.  ANY help is appreciated.

If you have lost the BRP and are outside the UK, you will need to report it as lost and then you will have to apply for a 'replacement BRP visa' in order to return to the UK.

This can only be done online and will cost £72. I don't think there's any way of doing it quickly - I believe it's applied for like any other visa, which means booking biometrics and then mailing the documents to NYC... so you just have to wait until it's been processed before you can return to the UK. I think you can still pay the extra $170 for priority processing to try to get it processed faster though.

It is only valid for one entry to the UK, so then you have one month to replace it properly once you are back in the UK (which costs £40 and is done by filling out the BRP(RC) form).

See here:
https://www.gov.uk/replace-brp

From that page:

Replace your BRP if you’re in the UK

You must apply for a replacement BRP within 3 months if it was lost, stolen or damaged while you were in the UK, or within 1 month if you’re returning to the UK on a ‘replacement BRP visa’. A replacement BRP costs £40 if you apply from inside the UK.

You may be fined up to £1,000 and have your permission to stay removed if you don’t apply for a replacement in time.

You’ll need to read the guidance on applying for a replacement BRP and apply using form BRP(RC).

You may also have to apply for a replacement BRP if your personal details have changed, eg your name.

Replace your BRP if you’re outside the UK

You can’t apply for a new BRP until you’re back in the UK. Instead, you must apply for a ‘replacement BRP visa’ which you can use once to re-enter the UK. A replacement BRP visa costs £72.

You must apply online for a replacement BRP visa in most countries.

Cuba and North Korea

You can’t apply online if you’re applying from one of these countries.

Download the application form.

Read the instructions for:

 -   Cuba
 -   North Korea

You must apply for a replacement BRP within 1 month of your return to the UK.[/i]
