I'm a newbie joining!
« on: September 26, 2014, 01:45:25 PM »
I've been kind of browsing through UK Yankee for a while as I've been working towards my visa (which I got yesterday!!!). I met my spouse while he was living in North Carolina for a visiting scholars program in 2011, and we've just now married this year in the states. I'm joining him in London in less than two months, and I'm starting to get super nervous about everything. I thought maybe it was time for me to be active here, rather than just reading everyone else.

I do really appreciate that some things are very clear about this site (like Things I Wish I Knew About the UK Before I Came, or the visa forums), which has already been so helpful. But I've had a little bit harder time navigating the packing-up process. Does anyone have a checklist of like, "When you are moving your banking, make sure you remember your accounts that you don't access frequently, like retirement accounts" type of advice?

I'm also super open to general conversation with other folks about basically any of this. I know I don't have tons of advice to give at this point, but I do like the idea of this community!

Welcome to the forum!  It is a great community.  Kudos to you for navigating the visa process already.  There are several threads about banking, moving, and all that jazz.  If you have a specific question, make a post and people will be long to answer it!  Good luck with your move!

I would like to know answers to retirement account questions too, if you post more specific questions I will be following to see what people say.  I don't have a lot of retirement savings but I definitely want to keep what I have and invest it over there!
