research & blog about becoming a UK citizen
« on: October 08, 2014, 03:14:23 PM »
I'm posting as a sociologist at the University of Leicester.  Several colleagues and I are doing research (funded by the ESRC) about the process of becoming a UK citizen.

We are developing a blog where individuals can write about experiences they've had in this connection (e.g. with the Life in the UK test, the application process, the citizenship ceremonies, etc.).  If you are interested in writing something that we'll consider for publication, please have a look at the newcomer link: http://www2.le.ac.uk/departments/sociology/research/uk-citizenship-process [nonactive] .  The link to the blog itself is newcomer link: http://www2.le.ac.uk/departments/sociology/research/uk-citizenship-process/project-blog [nonactive] ; currently it contains an article published in the Guardian a few months ago by Kamila Shamsie (very interesting, if you haven't already seen it).

I do hope some of you will be attracted by the notion of writing something.  The blog will be moderated; we reserve the option of not publishing everything we receive.  But we're keen to get the perspective of a wide range of people, including Americans.  (I'm an American myself -- became a UK citizen 4 years ago, after living here since 2001.)

Fellow (soon to be) Expat and recent University of Leicester graduate here.

Is the project focused solely on gaining UK citizenship only or will it look at the various ways through which people gain UK citizenship?  I would be interested but am just beginning the 5 year journey to citizenship.
