We fell in love on our honeymoon...
« on: October 27, 2014, 08:29:17 PM »
with London.

My husband and I are seriously considering moving to London from Iowa. We are interested in any tips or advice you all might have. We also have 3 minor children that we would need to take into consideration. Advice on transitioning kids would also be very helpful.

Currently, I work for the United States Government and my husband works for a utility company. Any and all suggestions welcome!

A couple specific questions:

Shipping options for home furnishings...suggestions?

Also...pets. We currently have 3 cats and a dog, what are the chances we'd be able to bring them?

Thanks for all your help!

Jessica and Mark

Figure out the "how" first.  Visas are hard to get.  What do you do for the US government?  Is it something you can continue to do while based in the UK (at the embassy)?

Welcome!

I lived in Decorah, Iowa for a while. Lovely place. :D

The first thing to do is figure out what visa you're eligible for. Right now, that much more important than how to ship your stuff or bring your pets.

Be aware that it's very difficult to qualify for a UK visa unless one of you is British or European or if you can get a job/transfer here.
