Those who have moved pets from US to UK through France
« on: February 27, 2015, 06:13:09 PM »

I'm hoping you can provide a little clarification.  I've just come from my vet's office, and the person in charge of providing certificates for international moves is saying that she's receiving conflicting information about whether we need two sets of health certificates - one for entry into France and then one for entry into the UK.  The health form itself says that after entry to any point in the EU, the certificate is then good for continued movement within the EU for 4 months.  The only difference between the health certificate for the UK and the health certificate for France (12/29/14 updated forms) linked on the USDA website is that the French form is bilingual.  They are, other than that, identical.  Am I right in assuming that I will have no problem going with just this bilingual health certificate and that it will be accepted both by the French authorities at the airport in Paris and by the British authorities at the chunnel crossing in Calais?  I plan to email the pet scheme helpline to ask for clarification as well, but I thought I'd ask here first to hear the experience of people who have actually done it.  Thanks!

I brought my dog & cat here via Paris in 2013 using the bilingual (French/English) Annex II, along with the APHIS form 7001.
I had no problems with my vet, the USDA vet, the airline, 2 different airports in America, or at CDG in Paris or the Pet Reception Centre in Calais or with my vet here in London. I think if I had 2 separate forms in 2 different languages, well, that would have been a problem somewhere down the line!  :)

Thanks for responding Stephanie!  I hadn't seen much mentioned about the APHIS form 7001 in my research.  From what I understand, it's not a requirement for France/UK, but is required by some airlines?

Yes, I think pretty much every airline requires the form for either domestic/international travel.  When you contact your airline they will tell you what they need to transport your pet, but double, triple check everything to make sure you have done all that is needed for all the forms etc.... to get your pet here with the least stress possible :)

I will definitely be quadruple-checking everything.  The girl "in charge" of this type of stuff at my vet's office has already been misinformed twice about procedure, so I know I've got to be on top of everything and not rely on anyone else to know what's what.  ::)  As if moving my family halfway around the world weren't stressful enough, right?  It'll be worth it in the end, I know.  London will be so worth it all!
