One thing British people will never understand about us yanks- how we've been formed in the harsh forge of youth dodgeball:

The only thing I hated more than dodge ball was Red Rover.   [smiley=anxious.gif]

I agree!!! I have to say dodge ball is here in the UK- at least it is at the school I work at, but Red Rover is one they don't know...and I am not cruel enough to introduce it!

I actually thought about dodge ball when I read Battle Royale.
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

Ah, dodgeball, one of the gym class games at which I was actually halfway decent.  Our school also went one step further and made us play Poison which was like a free form dodgeball.  Not only did you have to avoid all the other players, everyone who was 'out' sat down on the floor where they fell and could throw the ball at people who were 'in.'  It was vicious.

You think that is vicious....after it was all over we had to strip naked and take showers with these guys....

Listen, talk of trauma, I wasn't the world's most masculine guy at thirteen....I was in the band and my dream was to be a jazz trumpet player. So after not showering the first few days Coach Blanton called me into his office and asked me gruffly why I wasn't showering with the fellas....it was bad hygiene. So I answered him honestly as I could at the time that it was scary and I was still working out the sexuality bit. Apparently those are magic words amongst PE coaches, because he gave me a long look....gears spinning....and said, "OK, your'e excused....I'll put you down as 'unspecified infection' so the other coaches will know."

I think that troubled me more than anything....that there was a sheet of paper somewhere at my school in plain view of the staff that had my name on it and in the next column "unspecified infection".

It may have been a euphemism.
