Where's my Refund tool
« on: December 19, 2014, 03:28:41 PM »
I filed my tax return in March for the first time from abroad by mail. Today I found about this Where's my refund tool to check the status of my tax return with IRS and I get the following status:

Your tax return is still being processed.

A refund date will be provided when available.

I don't actually expect any refund as it's 0 but shouldn't my tax return have been approved by now? or is it because I am a US citizen abroad that this is taking so long.   Is it worth calling IRS ?

I don't like loose ends so I'd be tempted to call them, but the status does appear to show that they have received your return so you can't be accused of not having filed.

So I managed to get in touch and they said it was fully approved and everything is OK. I guess this means these internet tools may not always work for US citizens abroad, best stick with mail and telephone if you live abroad. The Get Transcript online tool also refuses to take my foreign address.
