Boston to London in need of housing advice
« on: December 09, 2014, 09:08:29 PM »
I too am moving from Boston area (Sudbury) to London in 6 weeks or so.  My wife is due to follow in March/April.  We are selling our Sudbury home and looking forward to living car free in London for 2 years.  I have a work Visa through my employer, and they provide one for my wife as well.  Our kids are recently out of the house with their own jobs (hurray!) so it will just be the two of us and our aging buy spry Norwegian Buhund (the best breed of dog noone has ever heard of).

My first question for this forum concerns neighborhoods.  We are looking for:

    - 2 bedroom furnished flat
    - 30 to 45 minute max commute by tube to Waterloo/Southwark/London Bridge stations
    - GBP 2700 max monthly rent
    - nice neighborhood feel, preferably with walk to park or open space[/li]

Any suggestions on neighborhoods to look in?

Paul

City center or suburbs?  Do you want parking, a garden (rare to have a dryer in the UK)?

Having a dog will limit the number of rentals available.  You will find one, but you'll need to be flexible.

thanks for quick reply!

City Center living, as we plan to be car free for sure.  No garage or parking needed.  Garden nice but probably not requirement.  and yes, I've heard that our Dog will restrict choices and lead to larger security deposit.  But he's worth it!

I'm sure you're aware of the UK pet entry requirements, but if not they're detailed here

https://www.gov.uk/take-pet-abroad/overview

The US is a "listed country".   I'm planning a move (from Needham MA !) to the UK next year with 3 cats so we're dealing with this right now.   Good luck with the move.
