Well in the Met Office, we call it by its technical term of 'explosive cyclogenesis', but I think 'weather bomb' is also an actual term coined by meteorologists several decades ago, it's just used more in the media I think. Ooh, just noticed that I know the guy they quoted in the article :).

Ahhh, I just looked it up. Cyclonic, pressure dropping rapidly, non tropical....not the best time to be out on a small boat I suppose.

Haha. I knew our resident meteorologist would be along to educate us. This reminds me of the polar vortex last winter in the states. Rush Limbaugh tried to say the term polar vortex was some sort of liberal climate change propaganda. Meanwhile it was a legit meteorological term that had been around for decades. Hahahaha.

My husband and I start singing "weatherbomb, weatherbomb, you're my weatherbomb" whenever we hear it. We heard someone else on the radio say that they do the same, haha

"I'm no scientist, nor am I trained in this meteorology nonsense...but this polar vortex is sinister and Canadian, and I don't trust it at all..."

We have some sinister stuff going on at the moment. We hit a high of about 11f yesterday, a low of -2 last night, it is currently 0, with a balmy, tropical 22 expected today. Low of 7 tonight and high of 16 tomorrow. I suppose compared to last year I shouldn't be complaining, but brrr. IF I had pretty snow to look at I wouldn't mind so much.

And, if both doors to out apartment wouldn't freeze shut when it is this cold I wouldn't complain so much. We had to fight our way in with lock de-icer and hubby's shoulder last night. That was after giving up on the one we usually use, and finally got in the one we've never used and actually had plastic shrink wrap over because it is on the lake side. As soon as we get these next couple days over, more plastic will be going up. It's amazing how useful it is, and how it just makes the door look shiny, but otherwise we don't notice it.

I don't think it's actually possible to be both sinister and Canadian.   :P

After searching for "sinister Canadian" all I could find was this early Rush foto:

That photo is amazing!

Speaking of cold weather, my mother sent me a Snapchat of the thermometer back in scenic Ohio.  It was -2 F (-19 C) outside.  Meanwhile, it hit 56 F in Chelmsford today and I regretted wearing my winter coat.   :P

It has been a bit nippy in the Midwest the last few days. We're finally at a tropical 17f currently, so I think it might be a good idea to fill the car. Hooray for good gas mileage because I haven't wanted to brave the frigid temps to fill up.
