Free NHS coverage on a Spouse Visa?

Hi everyone,

I've had a browse through some of the other topics here, but wanted to clarify. I just got my first FLR(M) visa on 11 March. I read that they're starting to charge £200 for NHS coverage for people getting this type of visa on 6th April. I gather that I have not paid that £200, so can I still get NHS healthcare for free? I read elsewhere that they intend to change the definition of "living in England permanently" to include only those on ILR, so does that mean I would need to pay to be seen and for all treatment?
I plan to try to register with the nearest surgery this week. Will I be able to do this over the phone, or will they want to see my BRP and passport just to register?
Basically, I want to know what I'm entitled to and how I access it.

You will be entitled to access your GP at no cost. To register, you cannot do this online.  You must physically go into a GP practice in your area, and fill in some forms.  You will need proof of your identity and proof of your local address (in the form of a bill/bank statement/any other official document, so they can ensure you're in their catchment area). 

To find a practice in your area, on the NHS homepage, look for the "Services near you" section in the middle of the page -- just click the GPs tab, enter your postcode, and click the "Find GP Practices" button.
