IRS foreign income
« on: June 27, 2015, 10:26:54 AM »
Hi All,

I recently came across this website whilst searching for answers to my quandry!

Im a US citizen but i have lived in the uk for the most part of my life, I have ILR (another quandry of mine, i qualify for dual nationility.... but refuse to pay the extortianate fees) and have paid Uk taxes since i started earning. Having never paid tax to the IRS, im curious as to what i need to do with this new policy on foreign income, do i still need to file a tax return to the IRS?? and how!? does it cost??

So confused, perhaps a bit naive but is there anything else i should be doing as an expat???

I have a million questions as you can imagine!

your help is greatly appreciated, i plan on contacting the embassy on monday but i feel that i need it explaining in lay terms rather than the technical jargon thats found online!!

many thanks,

If you have never filed any US tax returns or FBARs the IRS generally want you to file for the past 3 years and to use their offshore streamlined procedures.
