introduction - hello

Hi all, after lurking on this board for a while I finally decided to sign up. I have been in London working in the City for about half a year now.  I aim to do a fair bit of travelling around Europe and I have a season ticket to queens park rangers fc.  I'm keen to contribute and also field a few questions, and also happy to chat about football/soccer and skiing.

How/why did you pick QPR?

long story. but more so they picked me than I picked them, as I gave a fare shake to every london club and others (ive been to a crazy amount of football grounds). loftus road is a proper football ground, the fans are passionate, they arent racist (Chelsea, Palace, etc), prices fairly reasonable, nice part of london, many more reasons

I like that. I am not a huge follower of footbol, but appreciate the game. But I've often wondered what team I would support if I were to get the bug.

This guy I know who is from New Zealand is a United follower...rabid. He picked them because they were "clearly" the best. Which seems a little crappy to me. He said I should pick a team and I said, "What about Astin Villa, it sounds cool and foreign?" He said, "Oh, not those guys they're wankers!"

do you live in england or the UK? If so I would start there, and support your local club. that is looked upon very highly amongst proper football fans, no matter where you're from.  1 thing that gives yanks a bad rep among english fans are being from randomtown, USA and supporting random Premier League club. All clubs have "clearly the best" moments and then they have falls from grace.
I cheated a little and self fulfilled this prophecy by living in west london, where QPR are. I've been to Man United before I chose QPR, and I'd say that was the 1 place where I felt like I never belonged (too long of a story to elaborate but mostly: insane prices, no local fans, fans flying in every weekend from Dubai, etc)

Good point.  That's why I don't bother.

I genuinely like watching soccer; I enjoy the World Cup, especially the Women's cup.  But screw the Premier League-- my favorite football team always has been, and always will be, the Green Bay Packers.

haha, fair enough. and honestly I think thats a good stance to take.. at least until you've visited said ground of said club.  I'm sure 90% of arsenal fans would not support the gooners if they ever visited the Emirates Stadium.

Unless Highbury runs in your blood!  I don't think liking a team from another town or liking a foreign team is bad at all.  People like who they like.

I support Man United because my husband does....not because I have to support who he supports but when the games are on the television, I tend to watch and gradually end up getting to know the players- to me I can't enjoy watching sport if I don't 'know' the players.
He is a Man United supporter because when he was a teenager he was helping his dad wire a house and it was a footballer who later went to Man United to play- and he had a kick about with him ;-)

As I hail from a family of American Arsenal fans, I shall have to respectfully disagree.
