Getting Started.... making new friends!
« on: October 31, 2004, 08:19:38 PM »
;D  Hello! My name is Freddy Neve. I will be making the move to Norwich by Dec of 2005. I very much would like to make some friends ahead of time so as the transition would be painless.... or so they told me!
What can I say why Norwich? Because I have a daughter, who is 10yrs old, & wants her Daddy to be close to her. She lives in a small town near by.   I would love to meet all the locals as well as all newbies who are there already. I have been there several times.  I really love it there (go figure, someone who loves inclement weather??? remarkable!) :o  I love all things automotive as well as cycles. I have done some acting in the past & hope to explore that venue when I arrive. I love to meet new people & try new things.. as such the stuff that makes life ..is'nt it? ;)   I will looking forward to living in the UK and enjoy all that it has to offer.
Guess thats about it for the moment. Anyone else have any questions or wishes to contact me, I would be happy to respond!
All the best !  Cheers..
Freddy

Hi Freddy and welcome to UKY!  I think moving to be closer to your daughter is a great thing for you to do.

I am sure she will be very  happy about that.

Thank you for responding! It will be a fun thing to explore a new country! My daughter loves europe.. she doesnt like the rain.. i always told her that rainy days are daddys favorite time because the sky "comes down to meet you & share a kiss" worked for a while.. ha! ::)  Anyway.. I assume that it will be like moving to another state``` getting a flat, looking for work, setting up all those utilities that you will have to work overtime for?? am i close?
:o Listen, thsnk you Helena & Vnicepeeps for replying so soon.. i will have questions as the days go by.. i am writing a list of things to do....   I just got back from London, spent a day by myself in Camden town as well as exploring the sights.. Later I stopped in a pub & was able to enjoy the hospitality with some new friends! boy do i really like beer.. (ok, this wasnt hard at all.. just drink!) ;)

I think I will not bring my car over.. there are so many choices!  I love the small cars!
all the best  Freddy

It's sort of like moving to another state as you describe, but then again it won't be like that. You will still have the basics motions to go through, but they'll  have different words for things and utilities may not be exactly what you're used to. You've got plenty of time for research, and just reading these forums will give you loads of insight on how the little things might take you by surprise.

Best of luck :)

Welcome to the site - there are definitely great people on here and lots to learn.  Moving over here definitely was different than moving to another state - I would read up on starting a bank account, how to find a flat, what the best t.v., phone & internet connections are out there...and more.  And ask questions up the wazzoo!  Enjoy your time in London - it's a great city.  I LOVE living here!

First off, thank you all so far with your warm greetings!  It indeed is a good start. Just wanted to let you know that I just got back recently from London & the expierence was ... out of this world! ;D I love europe in general. Dont know why, sometimes, you visit a place and suddenly, you feel a connection? Maybe it is just in bits & pieces, but I see certain places, homes, locales and suddenly you get an instant feeling of comfort. Sorry, it is about the best I can explain this early in the am.! ???

Anyway, I had a blast walking about London, taking in all the sites, traveling the tube here & there.( although the buses give a wonderful view of things, especally from the "second floor"... now if they could only a/c it during the warm month!)

Met many wonderful people.. it was actually amazing to me how open & expressive Brits are!  It was so easy to get about & enjoy my time there.

I have a question for now.. what about owning a car?  Since I will live away from London, would it be worth it? I love to sight see but I was thinking of going frugal in what type of car I will need.  There are many factors Im sure. I hear geting a car registared is a full time job!  ;D
I am haapy to hear your thoughts on this.
Thank you once again for your comments!
all the best.. Freddy

But if you've driven in California or Idaho, you should be fine seeing as no one drives on the right side of the road anyways!  ;-)  LOL

Yes I would say outside of London you would find a car very useful, especially if you have children. It is not too much of a hassle getting the car registered. You just send the papers off to the DVLA, it takes a couple of weeks.

Hiya Freddy,

My husband and I are about an hour from Norwich, but we are there all the time. It's one of our favourite cities!  Anytime you are looking for someone to come share a pint or two, drop us a line.
