Mom's american pension...
« on: May 20, 2015, 02:26:59 PM »
We relocated back to the UK in Dec 2013.  My mom who is 79, received her American pension via direct deposit into an American bank account, which I withdraw in the UK on a debit card. We didn't notify the social security administration when we left as it was all done hastily, and due to it arriving each month all was good.  They just however altered the payment amount to less than half.  In the USA she was receiving her British pension and I notified them when we arrived.  I'm afraid we did the wrong thing by not informing them before we left and am unsure as to the best way of sorting this now problem out???  Any advice is appreciated.

You need to notify the SSA that she is in UK. She can have her pension paid into a UK account without any issues.  You can contact the SSA at the US Embassy in London via email.

As too why her money has gone down it could be due to windfall elimination as she is getting a pension from UK.
