Greetings from the Lone Star State

Hello everyone! I'm really excited to read more about everybody''s experiences with their move to the UK, their adjustments to UK life, and everything in between.
My name is Liz and my boyfriend lives in Sheffield. We know we want to be engaged and married, so we plan on filing for a fiance visa in the fall. In the meantime, I have a visit over there coming up in a few weeks and I miss him so much so I'm so ready to spend some quality time together!
This board has already helped a lot with some of my questions and concerns- I just finally decided to post! I can't wait to hear more about everyone's experiences.

Where in Texas are you from?  I'm a fellow Texan as well who is about to cross the pond in August. I live in Austin.

Just out of curiosity, is there any particular reason why you're going for the fiance visa as opposed to marrying in the states and applying for the spouse visa?

I'm from Houston. Really excited about going there and exploring.
We're doing the fiance route so we can get married over there which is what we were wanting to do. There's so many lovely places over there and I think we'd prefer that.

I know what you mean about all the beautiful places to marry over here. Most of the countryside is just absolutely breathtaking, not to mention all the gorgeous, old churches! A good choice on your part, I reckon!

Thank you @heyjay. I hope you guys are staying dry. We have experienced tons of flooding but luckily it hasn't affected my area of Houston as much. It is pretty scary though.

Did you get married in Texas? I think UK is the right decision. Something unique, small, and quaint would be nice.

So far, so good.  The weather has been pretty spectacular this past week, but usually I miss all the blue skies and its grey and cloudy by the time I'm off work. Totally my luck.

Glad Houston seems to be doing alright, at least! I have lots of family out that way. Some of them were badly hit by hurricane Ike so I'm sure they're all thinking, "Not again!" Granted, I have lots of family/friends in Austin, too.

My husband and I married in Texas, yes. I was pretty set on that decision - didn't even give the UK a thought, TBH. I certainly would've loved a wedding in the country over here with some of those rolling green hills as a backdrop but I have no regrets, totally loved the place we chose in the end. Which turned out to be the first place we looked at, AND free. What are the odds?
