Very interesting. I'm not a proponent of home birth, but the idea of a trained midwife in a facility is appealing. The US healthcare system is so rigged in favor of the hospitals and the insurance companies that what's best for the patient rarely matters anymore.

I think childbirth and motherhood in the UK are far better just under the pretext that you get mandatory paid leave in the UK. One of my biggest irritations with the US is its treatment of mothers. We're one of three developed countries without mandatory paid leave for childbirth. Ridiculous.

I had two scheduled homebirths - first one unsuccessful and I ended up in hospital, still a fine experience, second one a smashing homebirth. Amazing that I was given this experience. Happy to answer any questions.
