I have a hypothetical question. If at some point I decide to move from the UK to another country before I'm entitled to a state pension, is there any way of reclaiming NI contributions?
As for reclaiming all contributions, no. There are some very specific exceptions. The agreement between the US and UK is here:
https://www.socialsecurity.gov/international/Agreement_Pamphlets/uk.htmlI don't know if I will be working in this country for 30 or 35 years or whatever the minimum is.... I used to live in Germany, and when I left there I could reclaim the money paid in to the state pension. I was just wondering if there was some similar kind of rule for people who will have no entitlement to a state pension here.
Whatever the minimal amount of years which may be needed to establish a right to a UK State Pension, currently, there are ways to receive that partial pension, even if you do not have the basic required number of years (currently 10 years?). This would come from the ability to use contributions to US SS via credits to the UK.
(IMHO, I could be wrong)...If you have reclaimed your contributions from Germany, then you would not be able to do likewise with Germany. If you had left your contributions in Germany, you would have been able to use those also. Each country pays only an amount equal to your rights per the contributions to that country.
