tier 2 visas in the third sector
« on: November 07, 2015, 01:45:47 PM »
Hi all,

I've just finished an MA at King's College, and am desperately scrambling to find a job that will sponsor a work visa before my student visa expires at the end of January. The good news is that during this tiny window I'm exempt from having to prove that I am the single person on earth who can do a given job, and that I have 20 years of work experience prior to getting this MA, so I have a lot of skills and experience to offer. The bad news is that is it SUCH a tiny window of opportunity, and the vast majority of my work experience is with non-profit organizations.

I'm specifically curious if anyone here has any insight into the likelihood (or lack thereof) of third sector organizations in the UK sponsoring a tier 2 visa? I'd also be grateful to hear any general advice about the most strategic way to approach finding organizations that would be willing to sponsor a visa, and how to present my transferable skills to for-profit UK employers in the best way possible.

Thanks so much!

I know there's a list of companies who are already registered sponsors somewhere on the Internet. Google  around and see if you can find it. If not I'm sure someone here will produce the link soon. If you target places who are already sponsors I think you'll have a better chance since you won't have the issue of having to wait for them to get approved as sponsors as well as your visa.

Unfortunately, the list is over 29,000 long! But if a company had to apply to become a sponsor in order to sponsor you, it might mean you run out of time - it takes a few weeks to about 6 weeks to be approved.
2004-2008: Student Visa
2008-2010: Tier 1 PSW
2010-2011: Tier 4
2011-2014: Tier 2
2013-2016: New Tier 2 (changed jobs)
16/12/15: SET (LR) successful! - It's been a long road...
12/05/16: Citizenship ceremony!

Thanks! I've been sloooowly combing through that list for a few weeks. Good to get confirmation it's the best place to be looking. :-)
