Took break from UK-Y. I'm back.

Hey kids! Hope all's well with everyone.

Trying to set the real estate purchase in motion. Looks like Barclay's and HSBC can work mortgages for non-EU/non-UK citizens, as long as you can plunk down a large amount for collateral.

I just got into a purchased house as my final piece of my immigration odyssey.   I don't know your age, but keep in mind most lenders here will truncate the term of the loan at age 65.  That would be age discrimination in the US.!  Anyway,  lenders have been getting flack for it and some like Abbey (Santander) and NatWest will take it to age 75 now.   Good luck in the purchase.  That's a learning experience as well  ;-)

I'm 49. You got that right! This is a whole new adventure for the uninitiated. Feehold/Leasehold, No Chain, etc.

Barclay's looks like the way to for a mortgage, but I need more details about how my collateral will be treated by them (interest/non-interest bearing account?). It digs deep into what I wanted to put in as a down payment.

By collateral, are you talking down payment? I know in Germany they want 40% down from foreigners. I've been wondering what the UK's limit is.

Are you buying a house in Newcastle?  We went with TSB.
